Diamond Select Toys president DSTChuck is back to answer more questions about Minimates, including Aliens and Avengers, Mortal Kombat and Mass Effect, X-Men and X-Files and more! Read on to see the status of your favorite series!

Dan W.

Were the series one TMNT Minimate keyring blind bags that were available at Kmart stores sold anywhere else?  I'm trying to track down an extra Kraang and Mutagen Mike but there are very few Kmarts in my area and I've already racked up over 400 miles trying to find them.

DSTChuck: Dan, they should be available at come comic book stores and some online retailers now. We’re going to bring some to SDCC as well – but no fondling the bags.

Hank F.

The new Avengers Minimates look super, but now that Age of Ultron is out, what are the chances of seeing a final form Ultron Minimate? The Ultron prime figure is great, but it'd be awesome to see a more bulked up Ultron.

DSTChuck: There will be a more imposing Ultron in the Age of Ultron 5-pack at Action Figure Xpress, that may be what you’re looking for. At this time I do not see us making more A2 product after the upcoming TRU assortment and specialty Series 63, but never say never.

Ken R.

Hey Chuck! Any word on how the Big Bang Theory sets did for Entertainment Earth?  Do you think we might see any more sets from any of the Big Bang Pow properties, like, oh, THE BIG LEBOWSKI?  Pretty please? Thanks, Ken Raining

DSTChuck: Honestly, Ken I have not heard – I will have to ask when I see them at SDCC.

Bernie M.

I saw the pictures for the Aliens power loader. Any chance of a Minimates Aliens apc or drop ship? Also more vehicles! I buy them every time I find them. They are so cool! My favs so far are the BSG VIPER and the pirate ship. Just a thought.

DSTChuck: Bernie, I really like the vehicles we have done and would love to do more. We have talked about Aliens, so we’ll have to see how it goes along.

Jacob B.

Hi Chuck! I just want to ask a question about the walking dead Minimates and my question is will there be TV series Minimates for the walking dead because I LOVE the TV series just as much as the comics but I actually like the TV series a tiny bit more so I was wondering about it because I think it would be cool to see a 2-pack of Sheriff Rick Grimes and Bicycle Girl or something. Just wondering, thanks. :)

DSTChuck: Jacob right now our deal is with Robert Kirkman directly, so we have no plans to go after the AMC series – but never say never.

Joey R.

Hey Chuck, wanted ask if there’s a chance at getting Prometheus mates down the line? Another question: Is there any chance at getting 'The Thing' Minimates? Thanks!

DSTChuck: We have not talked to Fox about those properties at this time.

David V.

Hi. Love the Mass effect line.  I heard series 2 is in the works.  Could we ask for a Miranda and Jack?

DSTChuck: David, at this time we’re thinking we will do a follow-up 4-pack at some point in the not-too-distant future.

Nate E.

Hi Chuck & DST Crew,

The upcoming Secret Wars waves at Specialty & TRU look awesome. I'm thrilled to see new characters and gaps in other teams/collections be filled. Will DST be looking at another Specialty wave or Box Set dedicated to the Secret Wars event? It's a great opportunity to add characters from rosters you've already started like Age of Apocalypse, Marvel Zombies & the in-humans.

DSTChuck: Nate, it’s too early to say for sure, but for now it’s just those two waves, but I have to say it was tons of fun pulling those characters for these waves. Also, the upcoming Zombie Villains vs. Age of Ultron Box Set is based on the Secret Wars book, so you may find some of what you want there!

James S.

Hey Chuck! Love the product, been collecting for a few years now with a near-complete collection of Marvel Comic Minimates. I’m a big Marvel Comics fan and what drew me to this line was the character selection, plus the fact that you guys do characters no other toy lines would touch. I noticed over the past couple years that the Marvel Movie Minimates have gradually begun taking over the release schedule of the Marvel Comic assortments. I think it’s great for people that are interested in movie stuff, but I can’t say I’m in that audience. I realize you have restrictions, but it would be great if you could run the movie stuff as a quasi-side line to the comic line. That way everyone gets what they want. The recent Marvel Animation announcement has me worried that comic assortments are going to be fewer and further between. Just wanted to let you know that us comic fans are still out there! I was also wondering if you guys have been thinking outside the box for ways of getting some classic comic characters into our collections if they can’t be squeezed into regular waves or box sets. PS, Series 60 is the best series you’ve ever put together. Thanks for your time! - James

DSTChuck: James, as the Marvel presence in movies and TV has grown over recent years, we have had to reflect that in our product mix. We do understand each line we do is not everyone’s cup of tea.

We do the best we can to keep the comic-oriented lines coming several times in the year to keep those fans happy. We’ll keep doing the best we can.

Robert P.

Hey! Love Minimates. With all your new DC products including the Gotham Minimates, will you have the rights to make Minimates for the upcoming Batman vs Superman movie?

DSTChuck: Robert, we will not be making products for the new movie. Sorry.

Cade G.

Hi. I love the character Spider man 2099 and Spider-Gwen. To start off, will you, Diamond Select Toys, be making another 2099 Spidey? I would buy the old one but I want to make sure you will not end up making a newer update and then i will be stuck with two very similar Minimates. I would love to see a new one but i am just taking precautions. Next and finally, the newfound popularity of the Spider-Gwen character made me wonder if you will be doing a Minimate of the character. I think it's a great character and would love to see it in this form. Thank you for taking the time to consider and answer my question.

DSTChuck: Cad, I think you will be very happy with our upcoming line-ups. Spider-Man 2099 will be in Marvel Animated Minimates Series 1 at Walgreens this September, and Spider-Gwen is currently scheduled for Toys”R”Us Series 21.

Ross N.

Two questions

1.  Since wave 60 looks to have been a huge success, any thoughts on doing a best of series with the x-men in their costumes from X-Men #1 from the 90s?  I know the best of waves are meant to be iconic and recognizable costumes, and what is more recognizable than those costumes.  Also as someone who has just recently started collecting Minimates, I missed out on many of these characters and they now go for close to $30 on the internet.

2.  Along the same lines since you are doing a five character boxset for SDCC, any plans to release a 5 figure boxset for 90s X-Factor with Havok, Polaris, Multiple Man, Wolfsbane, and Strong Guy?  If you can tell I love 90s X-Men Minimates.  That recent X-Force boxset was awesome by the way.

DSTChuck: Ross, while series 60 did well, I would not necessarily say it was a huge success. I would doubt we would do an all X-Men “Best of,” and I don’t see us doing a similar mix and match plan for a best of wave. On the other hand, we’re overall pretty happy with the way series 60 was executed and received by fans.

I really don’t know what we will do with the 4-packs, I’ve been resistant to them in the past as the price crosses the $20 line, but I guess we’ll have to see.

Jesse S.

The X-Files and Twin Peaks are coming back - I, for one, would welcome multiple Minimates sets!

DSTChuck: I suppose anything is possible.

Dylan B.

How About Making Mortal Kombat Minimates for gamers and fans of Minimates?

DSTChuck: Sorry, Dylan, right now we have no plans for MK Minimates.

Laurie A.

I just have a few questions:

1. Any possibility on some x-men Minimates such as toad, rogue, spyke, or x-force deadpool?

2. The amazing spider-man 2 Minimates are incredible!!! Is there ANY chance of seeing the rhino armour from amazing spider-man 2 as possibly a vehicle, what about electro in his hoodie?

3. Any possibility of seeing non marvel heroes such as spawn and hellboy?

4. Since you guys have licences to both Alien and Predator does that mean there could be AVP Minimates (not sure how the licenses work) if so could we see the predation? As for just aliens is there any chance we could see the runner from Alien 3? What of the super predator's? Thank you for your time and consideration

1. X-Men are always possible.

2. We are no longer producing product based on ASM2.

3. We do work out deals with other comic creators from time to time, but neither of those are planned right now.

4. Believe it or not, AVP is a SEPARATE license. But there are lots more Predators and Aliens we’d like to do in the main movies, so hopefully the line keeps selling.

Brandon D.

Any chance of you guys finishing up some of the glaring holes in the Age of Apocalypse roster in the next few years? Iceman, Quicksilver, Gambit & Storm especially?

DSTChuck: The door is not closed to them, but it’s not in the line plan at this time.

Brendan W.

Hey diamond select toys it would be awesome if you guys could try to see if you could make some Dead Space Minimates. Seeing as you already acquired the license to EA's Mass Effect maybe you could see if Dead Space blind bags exclusive at GameStop would be an idea thanks have a great day.

DSTChuck: Brendan, we have no plans right now to go after that license, sorry.

Shawn G.

Hey Chuck, I love your Minimate product lines a lot. I just have a couple quick questions. With next year being the 50th anniversary of the Batman TV show, is there any chance that you guys might be able to do a special Minimate box set from the show? My last question is have you ever considered doing some of the Marvel vinyl banks but as Minimate versions of the characters. I would love to see a Minimate Galactus vinyl bank that would tower over the regular sized Minimates! Thanks for listening. - Shawn G.

DSTChuck: Sorry, we do not have the rights to Minimates for the 1966 TV show. Would be cool though.  Unfortunately, we do not have rights to Marvel banks, either.

Got your own question for DSTChuck? Send us an e-mail!

Exclusive Marvel Minimates Animated Line to Launch at Walgreen’s Stores this Fall!

In the long history of the Marvel Minimates line, there have been waves dedicated to both Marvel comics and Marvel movies, but never the world of Marvel animation. Now, Diamond Select Toys is launching an all-new series of Marvel Minimates, exclusively at Walgreen’s, and it’s all about the Marvel Animated Universe!

Starting September 4, Marvel Minimates Animated Series 1 will be available at Walgreen’s stores nationwide, and will feature Diamond Select’s first cartoon-based Marvel Minimates. Marvel Minimates Animated Series 1 will feature four different two-packs, each with show-specific packaging design:

  • From Guardians of the Galaxy, a two-pack of Star-Lord and Groot will come with a 1-inch micro-figure of Rocket Raccoon, as well as a blaster and a mask for Star-Lord.
  • From Ultimate Spider-Man; a two-pack matching up Spider-Man with Electro will come with an alternate Spidey head, a webline, lightning blasts and an energy base. Plus, Electro glows in the dark!

Ask DST #283: For All the Marvels

Ask DST #283: For All the Marvels

Welcome to Battleworld! Each week, Diamond Select Toys president DSTChuck strides into the arena to take on all comers, answering questions from the four corners of the globe, and this week the questions are all about Marvel toys! As the questions are primarily Marvel Select action figure-related, DSTChuck talks about Secret Wars, Captain America: Civil War, and the ongoing war between those who want new characters and those who want new versions of popular characters. Let the battle commence!

Lewis R.

I heard you were sign up to make products for the secret wars 2015 do you intend to make any of your 7 inch figures of any of the secret wars 2015 figures and if so can you tell me what figures you will make

DSTChuck: Lewis, we will be making product for Secret Wars, but not Select figures, sorry.

Matt M.

Hello, my names Matt and I would like to start off by saying huge marvel movie selects collector.  Love your works, my favorite is the dark world Thor so I for one am happy to get an aou Thor.
Two questions for you:
1. With your new Gotham line (very excited) does this mean that there is an effort going on to get more shows in the lineup, I'm talking about daredevil, agents of shield, agent carter and all the other shows coming down the pike? These shows are becoming a huge part of the MC so I know I would love a select Coulson.
2. I know your license states you can't go back to a movie. However most MCU movies are accompanied by 1 maybe 2 comics, could you go back and use those as your source? I know you have been asked the going back question a ton, but I don't know if I have ever seen this one posted. THANKS

1. Matt we are always looking for new fun and exciting properties to make products. I do not think the Gotham line signals an emphasis in any direction.

2. If you are asking could we do the comic costume, then yes, but it would not have movie logos and could not have the actor likenesses.

Shiva K.

Can We Expect More Marvel Select Spider-Man Line Figures Next Year? After Watching What You Did To The Recently Released Carnage Figure, I Really Want You Guys To Focus On Figures Like Comic Spider-Man & Black Costume Spider-Man 2.0 (Both With More Articulations), Spider-Man 2099, Mysterio, Doc-Ock ETC !

DSTChuck: Shiva, I am a big fan of Spidey so he is always near the top of my list. We’ve locked about ½ of the 2016 figures, so we’ll have to see what we come up with for the rest.

Christian Y.

Hi, I was wondering if you guys could sell packs of those black foot stands that came with the newest Select Thor.

DSTChuck: We do not sell anything like that right now, but there has been some talk in the office about making some type of Select base down the road.

James C.

DSTChuck: James, we are done with the Age of Ultron figures, so we’re on to Captain America: Civil War, and we’ll have to see what we can make happen for that movie.  I think comic-based figures at the same time the movies are out might be tricky. In the past that was an easy go-to, but as the new contracts are written, it’s getting more and more complicated.

Andy H.

Hi, as a loyal Diamond Select customer I was hoping I could get some information regarding future products. Will you guys be producing a Captain America figure as well as an Iron Man figure for the Upcoming Civil War film? Also, do you guys plan on producing a Daredevil figure based on his new red costume in the Netflix show? I would really like to know because as an avid toy collector of many different toy lines I like to plan out my budget for collecting as soon as possible. If you can shed any light on these inquiries, please let me know, thank you.

DSTChuck: I think it’s safe to say we will make a Cap figure from Captain America: Civil War, but beyond that we’ll have to see. I do not think at this time we will be making a Netflix DD. The way they film and air these Netflix shows is very cool and fun but is not conducive to making merchandise.

Mike D.

Hello DST, now that Avengers Age of Ultron is out and is set to make all kinds of ludicrous money can we at least have an old school Comicbook style, 616 Vision action figure please. The debut of my favorite synthezoid avenger on the big screen will up his popularity, so can you have it sculpted by the same person who made that awesome Thor with the swirling hammer and not make it a Disney exclusive because there is no Disneystore here in Australia (this coming from an Ex New Yorker). Thanks, Mike

DSTChuck: It is certainly possible we could make a Vision figure down the road.

Felipe Q.

Hello, I wonder if you have plans to release for the film Captain America: Civil War, the figures of Captain America and Iron Man for Marvel Select line. Thanks.

DSTChuck: We fully expect to have something from that movie.

Robert B.

With my old Toy Biz Marvel Legends slowly disintegrating and Hasbro's focus on movie and modern, what say you to a comic Silver Centurion Iron Man?  I'm sure with some creative tooling choices you could probably get a Classic red/gold out of it and all the permutations based off of that (stealth, horned helmet, red/yellow with Rhodes head, etc.).  My TB Silver Centurion lost its head this past weekend and it's my favorite IM armor!  I'll definitely be grabbing your Hulkbuster armor in anticipation of my TB one turning to dust soon!

DSTChuck: We’re big fans of Iron Man here, so he will always be on our short list, including the Layton look.

Bryan B.

Hello DST! I LOVE DST's Marvel Select line.  Its totes my fave. I just want to thank you for a really stellar 2015! The Cable figure is awesome!  The surprise announcement of a new Hulkbuster Iron Man Armor is fantastic!  The recent Hawkeye was an unexpected surprise.  Also, I'm especially stoked for the upcoming Dr. Strange figure! Those 4 figures in particular speak to a diversity in character selection that many of us collectors are always hoping for, so thanks for that. Now is the time when I'd like to post a few of my wish list items, so here we go.

#1. Iron Man.  Now, I'm reluctant to ask for ANOTHER Iron Man figure...but if you were/are going to sculpt a new one, I'd love to see a gold Mark II from Avengers issue #1, so as to round out the original Avengers line-up.  Or my second choice would be a Silver Centurion Armor Iron Man.  That could be great!

#2. Thor.  Same deal.  ANOTHER one?  Yeah yeah...BUT if you HAD to sculpt a new one...I would LOVE to see a Walter Simonson style Battle Armor Thor, (straight out of Issue #378).  Or as a spinoff idea, a Destoyer Thor, or maybe just The Destroyer itself, (though that might be a little boring)?

#3.  Human Torch or Sue Storm to round out the FF?

#4.  A Namor figure would be pretty great.

#5.  A Kingpin figure could be cool.  Not on Hulks scale, but bigger than, say...Daredevil?

There are others I'd like to see, but I'll leave it up to you talented folks.  Last thing, I'd like to say is to please stay vigilant on scale.  Some of your sculptures seem to throw scale to the wind, so please stay on top of that aspect. Again, I love your products, and I look forward to more greatness, although 2015 will be hard to top.  Good luck!  We're watching.

DSTChuck: Thanks for the kind words. Glad you’re digging it.

Yes it very funny some fans get sick of all the Iron Man, Hulk and Spideys BUT those are the most requested from retailers, write-ins and trade show visits. Thor is getting up there as well. For now we have no plans for any Select FF characters, down the road we’ll see.  I do think if we did a Kingpin it would be pretty big but not HUGE. Maybe like Amazing Spider-Man #51 or #60.

Jesus T.

The work MS has been doing recently is just stunning; I'm at about 40 select figures right now. A request: more X-MEN. In particular Rogue. Hope this is in the plans!

DSTChuck: We have talked about Rogue a couple times, I would think her time will come. Thanks so much for the support.

Jim W.

I was disappointed to see the DoFP Mystique figure cancelled, and was wondering if Marvel Select figures based on the X-Men movie designs were still a possibility for the future? I'm a big fan of Jubilee, and would love to see her upcoming movie appearance made into an action figure. Though if not a movie version, would a classic comic book version of the character be up for consideration?

DSTChuck: Jim, we’re pretty stubborn here, but I think we’ve given up the idea of a movie figure from the X-Men movie franchise. But never say never.

Ryan C.

Hi guys! I am an adult collector of Marvel Select figures - fantastic figures by the way!

I was just wondering if we were likely to get any more Iron Man armors from the movies. Would love a mark 46 from Age of Ultron ;) Cheers, Ryan.

DSTChuck: Ryan the way our license is written, once a movie has come out on DVD you will not see product from DST. It’s been that way for a few years now.

Tiago F.

Hi how are you all? Any chance of re-releasing the Marvel Select figures Marvel Girl, Logan days of future past, Emma Frost, She Hulk, and Mephisto? And the Disney exclusives Capt. America (classic avengers), Elektro, savage hulk, winter soldier will they have a normal release? Thank you so much, keep the amazing work.

DSTChuck: For the figures released in the regular line, we are always talking to sales about figures that could have the demand for a new production run. For the Disney figures, that is an ongoing discussion we have with them. They have been very kind to let the figure go into the main line at a certain point. [FYI, Savage Hulk has recently been offered to comic shops. - DSTZach/MSWord.]

David R.

Any chance of an Anna Maria as a future pack in with a Spider-Man? Like what we saw with Zombie Gwen Stacy and Carnage or Death with Thanos? Thank you.

DSTChuck: I would suppose at some point it’s possible, but it would have to just the right situation.

Chris P.

How about some different characters or versions of more popular figures? I realize the movie versions of figures are DST bread and butter but a lot of us also love the comic versions of characters even more. Also, Mr. Fixit Grey hulk with tattered shirt, jacket and hat accessories, Marvel now Bagley hulk with mohawk and goatee, Howard the duck, and Death's Head II. My list of characters could go on and on.

DSTChuck: I would not say the movies are our bread and butter, I really think we do the best we can to keep a fair mix of 616 and movie and classic and current looks.

Kyle R.

Hey Chuck, now, I know Marvel Select isn't a team-building line, but come on, please? We have Dr. Strange coming. We have Silver Surfer. We have umpteen versions of the Hulk. Can we have Namor to finish off the classic Defenders line? Please? Valkyrie too, since she was their first new member and looks awesome! Please again? Thanks!

DSTChuck: For the time being, we are going to be skipping FF characters, but certainly no door has been closed on ever doing a Namor figure.

Shiva K.

I Absolutely Loved Marvel Select Venom & The Recently Released Carnage Figures! I Hope you Do LOTS & LOTS Spider-Man Figures in the years to come. My Question Is: What Are The Chances Of Seeing Marvel Select Spider-Man 2099 Figure In The Next Two Years? Can We Expect Him By The End Of 2016?? BTW, When You Guys Do Him, I Seriously Hope He'll Get His Details Such As Face, Spider Logo in His Chest ETC In Sculpted Form & Not Just Painted like Marvel Select Electro! Thank You!!

DSTChuck: Glad you like them, I’m a big Spidey fan too. I do not think you will see 2099 in 2016, unfortunately.

Shandon W.

So a while back, when you guys sculpted Elektra and her Skrull copy, you did an interesting interchangeable lower half.  Are you guys considering that for any future figures?  I think it would be great for Dr. Strange to have an unarticulated lower half in his meditation pose.  Although I think the ball is already rolling too far on that. As for requests, I'd really like to see the following get the proper treatment:
1.  Nova - Richard Rider, not the hokey classic
2.  Maybe a villain for Civil War, either Baron Zemo or a Grillo Crossbones.  I know we're probably getting an Iron Man and Cap, but I'm sure Civil War will be just as big as AOU so maybe we'll see 3 figures.
3.  Black Costume Spidey resculpt (I know spidey is always on the table)
4.  Another Spidey Villain;  Shocker, Mysterio, Morbius, Hob/Demogoblin
5.  Another X-Men villain; Omega Red, Silver Samurai or Onslaught
Thanks for taking the time to do this and tell me at least one of the above is in the works.

DSTChuck: I think we did a few things like that in the early days. We’ve been refining our look for the last 10 years, so I don’t think that’s a direction we look, but we did do that with the Star Trek Select figures, so never say never. I do not think any of the ones you are asking about will happen in 2016, and I can’t answer anything yet on Cap 3.

Bernie M.

I know you are producing a Hulk Buster figure, but how about an Avengers Age of Ultron Version like in the movie, maybe 10 inches. I am not sure about other fans but I cannot afford the high end collectors version and your company makes really great figures.  Even at a higher price, it still would be cheaper than the collector’s versions, but with the same quality you put into all your figures.

DSTChuck: I think we’ll stick with the comic version of the Hulk Buster. It’s a very expensive figure to develop and produce.

Mauricio F.

Hi, do you have plans to release the Marvel Select Captain America with the uniform used in the movie Age of Ultron? I was disappointed with the current Marvel Legends version; it's just a bad repaint of the C.A Stealth Suit from the Winter Soldier movie.

DSTChuck: We are not producing any more figures for Age of Ultron, and it’s too soon to comment on Cap 3.

Christian Y.

Please please pleaaase make a movie Deadpool for the Marvel Select line. Gentle Giant sculpt and articulation too with alternate Ryan Reynolds Wade head.

DSTChuck: I do not think we have any plans for more Select figures based on the X-Men family of movies.

Dave C.

Hey DSTChuck! Thank you for taking the time to answer fan questions! Between you and MSWord, Diamond Select continues to be one of my favorite companies due to the communication with the fans... and the awesome figures! I have finally picked up the Bleeding Edge Iron Man, Mighty Thor and Avenging Hawkeye and they are amazing! The new movie Hulk has some of the best paint apps on any Hulk figure - keep it up! The new Dr. Strange is one that I am looking forward to as you guys nailed Stephen's classic look! I have a few questions regarding Select:

1. With the new Age of Ultron repaint of Thor, does that open you to do simple repaints of characters going forward as the characters movie looks seem to have stabilized. For instance, Captain America going into Civil War is the same from Age of Ultron which is a slight modification of the Winter Soldier stealth suit (an amazing figure!!) or Iron Man's Mark 43? Does that type of repaint count as one of the year slots?

2. I was reading the Minimates Q&A and I noted that you were told to stay away from the Fantastic Four... hopefully that is just the film and not the comic book versions. I would still love to see the rest of the FF in the Select line to join the Thing figure from a few years ago. The Human Torch with a gorgeous flame base and the Invisible Woman with a static Reed Richards stretched out ready for exploration. Just a thought.

3. With the Select line expanding in properties (The Gotham line looks lovely) is there any chance to see a some Jedi and Sith join in on the fun?

4. Thank you for finally making the film version of the Black Widow! She is one of my most anticipated buys of 2015! Thank you!!!! Any chance for the Scarlet Witch/Vision in 2016???

5. As far as the future of the Disney/Marvel Store exclusives, any chance for a new Marvel Now Captain America (with Steve Rogers head) and an Extremis Iron Man inspired by Steve McNiven from the Civil War story line? Along with more female figures like Captain Marvel or classic Ms. Marvel/Scarlet Witch? Actually, I would love to see more female figures in general as Marvel has some of the most compelling female characters.

Thank you again for all of the amazing figures you guys plan! - Dave

DSTChuck: Glad you like what we’re doing. I think as long as fans want to buy product we make and care about it enough to ask questions and send comments, the least I can do it take the time to answer as best I can.

  1. I suppose repaints are possible, that’s nothing new – we did it with Iron Man before, however in the case of Thor I wanted to do a little more, so we made the all-new base. Repaints do count in this line as a new release.
  2. I think for now we’ll stay away from all FF stuff, but it’s just for now. Things could change down the road.
  3. Hasbro has SW pretty locked up – I will say we’ve tried a couple times, but there are no cracks there to exploit.
  4. It’s funny, we’ve wanted to do her for a long time, so it just had to be done.
  5. We have NO idea the direction the Disney Store will want to take in 2017, but I think for the most part we’ve locked in what they want to see in 2016.

Abdullah M.

Can you guy please make a Jim lee Style Rouge figure & from the Classic X-men? That void was never really fulfilled.

DSTChuck: For SURE she has been considered, as has Psylocke – just not sure if it will be in 2016.

Lewis R.

Even though this is off topic, I would appreciate an answer - Are you going to make marvel select figures from the secret wars 2015 for Horus the God or Marcus the Centaur?

DSTChuck: For the MOST part, we do not do current editorial for Select , due to the time it takes to get a figure done and in stores, so I do not think so.

Tasin J.

Are you guys going to make Marvel Select X-Force Wolverine? Also, how about creating a Hulk Action Figure based on Edward Norton's Hulk?

DSTChuck: We are no longer allowed to make product based on that movie. As for any version of Wolverine... never say never.

Richard R.

Good day! I was just wondering if there were any plans in the docket to release a 7" Nova Centurion (or Prime) action figure in the future. Your 7" action figure collection is consistently well designed, with nearly immaculate articulation. A Nova figure, in my humble (yet very biased) opinion, would be a high demand product.

DSTChuck: I am glad you like the line, but that figure is not planned for 2016.

Ryan C.

I am just wondering... how many Marvel Select figures, including movie figures, do you all release a year? Thank you for a great 2015 by the way. The character selections and details of the figures have been outstanding. As an adult collector who sometimes gets laughed at (in good sport of course), I even have non-geeks admiring these works of art lately.

DSTChuck: I don’t think I can really say, since that involves the Disney Store, and I never know how many they will want each year. But as you know we are limited in how many releases we do in a year for a number of reasons.

John T.

Hey again! I wanted to address all the complaints of "too much Spider-man" from some people lately. I want you guys to know that I love the work that is put into the figures, and it's obvious you have a love, and passion for Spidey, and all your other works. Please don't ever stop! In fact, I hope that eventually we can get a Spider-man 2099 figure, and a few villains like Mysterio, and Scorpion. Thanks again, and I hope you guys had an awesome Memorial Day weekend! P.S. Hulkbuster looks shockin' mint!

DSTChuck: John, we get just as many “Can you please do more Spideys” as we do “Please don’t do any more Spideys.”

Kalon S.

Hi Chuck and DST Team.  Great job on your 2015 Marvel Select figure releases and upcoming ones...which brings me to my next question.  How many Marvel Select figures will be released for 2015?  How many for 2016 and is it a standard same every year?  Also most recent reveals of your 2015 MS line is in July Comic Hulkbuster Iron Man and September Doctor Strange.  Can you let us know what other figures will be released for 2015 and if not possible at least drop some good hints for us. Thanks! Your loyal fan, Kalon

DSTChuck: I do not think there are any Marvel Select figures left that you do not know about. [The last Disney Store exclusive for 2016 will be announced June 22. – DSTZach/MSWord]

Claus K.

Dear DST. Thank you for the awesome Marvel Select figures. I currently count 5 in my collection and 1 more on the way come payday. I wish that would have been Black Panther, since he is my all-time Marvel favorite. Any plans on making this character, or will you base it on movies forth? Kind Regards, Claus Kikkenborg - Denmark

DSTChuck: I certainly think it would be possible, especially with his new role in the Marvel movies. Never say never!

Darren D.

Hi guys, first off, really impressed with the diligence and patience with which you answer customer questions. So, loving the new ghostbusters figures, came as a complete surprise. I think I've asked before, but it never hurts to see if the situ has changed: classic (70's) Galactica,  Buck Rogers, the 7 inch and/or vintage star wars scales with vehicles....any chance? Please?! Also, in the smaller scale, Miami vice with Daytona, airwolf with chopper and little Ernie Borgnine??! Realistic please, I'm no fan of retro or minimate sorta stuff. Any chance?! Don't tell me you can't picture a lovely Hannibal in Aquamaniac suit variant?! And all those disguises, it's like printing money, or printing happy anyways!

DSTChuck: Darren, thanks so much for the interest – some of those are cool ideas, a couple we have even talked about. However I do not see Star Wars happening for figures.

Enrique G.

Will we ever get some 6 inch scale figures from Diamond Select again? I love Marvel Select but many of them are out of scale for us Marvel Legends and DC Universe Classics collectors that are "in scale" junkies. DC Icons is getting in on the action by starting a line with 6 inch figures and including accessories. Yes they have to cut down on the overall detail the 7 inch figures have but a lot of adult collectors (and children) love the smaller toys that come with stuff we can use for displays, dioramas, and just to flat out have fun/play with.

DSTChuck: I am sorry, Enrique, but Select has never been a 6” scale figure line, it’s always been a 7” scale line. Select was started before Marvel Legends even existed. Back at the time the line was started, 7” scale was prevalent for collector figures. We are aware many collectors from other lines will sometimes include our larger figures in their display.

David H.

The ghostbusters select figures look pretty cool. Would it be possible to see them at a larger scale at some point? I don't think anyone has ever done 1/4 ghostbusters figures before.

DSTChuck: David, I think for now our hands are full with the 7” figures we are working on. We have four series in process at the same time as well as the bases, plus variant figures as well as other figures.

Jeffrey E.

I love the reboot of the wolfman and mummy figures. Can I beg for Dracula to be redone with improved articulation!?

DSTChuck: Jeffrey, we have not decided if we will go forward with a seventh series, but if we do go forward I think a Dracula would make sense.

Jeff W.

DST - the Back to the future Mr. Fusion is nice and all but how about an interactive Time Circuits control?

DSTChuck: I think if Fusion does well we might look at another replica, but I don’t think we’ve figured out what might be next.

Rob B.

Just to say - love the buck Rogers Minimates - will we be seeing any more buck Rogers items? More Minimates or action figures perhaps? Thanks.

DSTChuck: Rob, for sure this is a property we have gone back and forth on. Sometimes the response from sales is strong, and other times we see a lack of enough interest, so I think a bit depends on how the MM do.

Christopher P.

The Dragon Age Minimates look great! Any chance of expanding to 6" or 7" figures in the future, or does DC Collectibles still have exclusive license? It's an incredibly rich franchise, and I'd love to see DST take a stab at it with the help of sculptors like JSJ, et al.

DSTChuck: I think it is very likely that we will do a Dragon Age figure or figures at some point.

Alex H.

Hi. Lately have noticed that several Mad Max fans around the web have been asking for collectibles, but it seems that several toy companies simply do not care about that franchise even with the new film. Any chance that you make collectibles based on Mad Max in the future?

DSTChuck: We did have some talks with Warner Brothers over the last year, but nothing was able to come of it.

Rick G.

Hi, since the new 'Power Rangers' reboot film was delayed a year. From July 22, 2016 to now January 13, 2017. Will you guys be buying the rights? How long does it take to buy the rights anyways? Because I'm not the only one, almost the whole fandom wants these type of Minimates figures, or any kind of figures. Can I have a poll or maybe you can post on your IG, FB, or even Twitter to see if fans would like these? Cause I LOVE your products and I LOVE Power Rangers & I would like to see two of them in one! Thank you for taking the time to read this message, have a nice day!

DSTChuck: I don’t think we are interested in Power Rangers at this time. As for how long it takes, that varies – sometimes it takes very little time to come to an understanding, and other deals have taken years to work out.

Chris S.

Hello again! B9 Robot is looking great! Would Diamond consider using this model to reproduce the 2foot tall B9 that Trend masters made back in the day? Perhaps you guys could shoot for a 3 or 4 foot model? Remote control wouldn't be necessary just loads of detail and pretty lights! And any chance Mego like dolls have been reconsidered to accompany your initial offering of B9? Oh the pain! The pain of not having more Lost in Space in the marketplace and all. Also, have your Knight Rider replicas product sold enough volume to now consider alternate deco releases? Battle damage paint jobs or Stunt Show Spectacular stars and stripes or even the convertible Kitt? I assume Goliath is not an option. If you do re-release Kitt throw us in a Garth figure. It make the Hoff smile at conventions!

DSTChuck: While I do think we will do something else with the B9 Robot, I don’t think something like a 2 foot version is a path we would take. We do not have rights to the action figure category for Lost in Space. At this time we do not have new development for Knight Rider planned.

Gabriel V.

Recently came upon your company and I really like what I see.  I am very interested in getting the new Batgirl resin figurine when it comes out.  However, I don't understand that lime green swirl base design the character is on. It seems so out of place.  Putting a beautiful sculpt on a cheap looking base.  I wish you would redo the base.  Everything else is awesome!  Thanks!

DSTChuck: Sorry, you’re not digging the base. We tried to come up with something somewhat simple but would also harken back to the 60’s and the aesthetic of the show.

Chris K.

Hello All, I recently received notice from a toy vendor that they were taking pre-orders for this coming June for releases of the Universal Monsters Bust Banks B&W editions of The Wolfman and Bride of Frankenstein.  Since these have already been released, I was wondering if these were repaints, as IMO, the Wolfman appears very dark and muted next the rest of the line, and the Bride is very light. (Though I don't see much fault in her.)  Just wanted to check to see if these are just re-paint variants as it was mentioned earlier that no new UM banks would be made in 2015. Thanks.

DSTChuck: Chris, the black-and-white versions of those banks have already been released, so maybe this is just the first time that vendor has offered that product.

Clayburn Moore Joins Diamond Select Toys as Art Director and Sculptor

Clayburn Moore Joins Diamond Select Toys as Art Director and Sculptor

The name Clayburn Moore is well-known in toy and statue collector circles, and rightfully so. As a sculptor, his mastery of the human form is evident in every piece he creates, and as the founder of his own company, he oversaw the release of numerous toys and statues beloved by collectors. After a long freelance relationship with Mr. Moore, Diamond Select Toys is proud to announce that they will retain his tremendous talent on a full-time basis, as Moore takes lead sculpting duties on several new statue lines for the company, as well as Art Director duties on other lines.

Moore’s deft hands will relaunch Diamond Select’s Premier Collection 12” resin statue line, beginning with his sculpts of Batgirl and Catwoman from the Batman Classic TV Series. Moore will also revive the Marvel Premier Collection, sculpting all-new statues of Marvel’s greatest heroes and heroines in a 12” scale, marking DST’s grand return to comic-based Marvel statues. (Moore himself kicked off the Marvel Premier line in 2002, with his sculptures of the Black Cat, the White Queen and Spider-Man.) A third Premier Collection line, based on Batman: The Animated Series, will follow.

Additionally, Moore will take up the Art Director reins on the new Marvel Femme Fatales PVC statue line, featuring 9” renditions of Marvel’s heroines by a variety of sculptors. He will also oversee future Femme Fatales releases based on other licenses.

"Working with the terrific folks at DST is as natural as working with family,” says Moore “I've known them a long time, and we've always had a great time working together on some projects that have turned out to be some of my favorite pieces. I've really enjoyed working on the Classic Batman TV Show sculptures, and I can't wait to get started on the Marvel characters."

“We work with many artists and sculptors at DST, and Clay has always been one of the greats,” says Diamond Select Toys President Chuck Terceira. “He’s not only a prodigious talent, he’s also a genuine pleasure to work with – he already felt like family, so it’s very fitting that he is now with us full-time. We’ve created great pieces with him in the past, and his new work surpasses those previous creations. The response to Batgirl has been phenomenal, and Clay’s just getting started.”

After refining his sculptural training in Italy, Moore quickly made a name for himself as a freelance sculptor, creating pieces for several manufacturers before setting off on his own in the 1990s, signing his own licenses under the Moore Creations and Moore Action Collectibles banners. Praised for his rendition of the female form, Moore has sculpted statues for all of the top comic publishers, and released fan-favorite toy lines based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Futurama, Witchblade, Chaos, Vampirella, Fathom, and Beavis and Butthead.

Ask DST #281: 49 Years of Star Trek!

Ask DST #281: 59 Years of Star Trek!

It’s another Ask DST, and this time Diamond Select Toys president DSTChuck is answering letters about Star Trek! Everyone wants to know what the next starship, Select figure and role-play item is, and while two of those categories have unrevealed items in the pipeline, we’re not quite ready to reveal them just yet! Still, Chuck does his best to comment on likelihood and possibility for each suggestion, and he takes all of your suggestions to heart. Read on for adventure!

Jonas D.

Hey Chuck, I honestly can barely believe that you finally do it: the TNG Phaser! I have been waiting for it for so long... I am very happy and grateful for your decision! You guys produce the best props for a reasonable price, they are made with lovely details and accurate in proportion. In my dreams the prop has a manually switchable power-bar and a sound that lasts as long as you push the fire-trigger. Other companies never managed to realize these features. Do you think these functions are imaginable? Greetings from Germany, Jonas.

DSTChuck: Jonas, I can’t say for sure -- those are cool features, but might be expensive and really kill the batteries.

Robby D.

Hi, are you going to do a 'partial cloaked' version of the Romulan BOP in transparent-green like the exclusive Klingon BOP?  I'd definitely be interested in that!

DSTChuck: Usually, we bounce around ideas for variants early on, but we don’t nail down something like a translucent version until pretty late in the game, and as the need comes up.

Keith J.

When are you going to create another Sisko figure? Or possibly something from DS9 like the USS Defiant?

DSTChuck: Right now, there is no Sisko planned, but he has not been ruled out, either.

Kody B.

I recently picked up your Star Trek Select Picard and Worf, and I'm impressed. I would give my right arm for a Star Trek Select Captain Janeway, or really even ANY of the Voyager crew. What are the odds of that happening? (Voyager in the Select line, not me giving up an arm.)

DSTChuck: For sure, we have not ruled out something from Voyager, and if the line does well we’ll keep going. The Marvel Select line is over 10 years old, and we’ve done many more characters than I would have ever thought about when we were just 4 or 5 figures in.

Ocean W.

Girl power!!! Instead of saying maybe, it's about time u just released Nurse Chapel and Janice rand action and retro figures. Your lack of female crew figures is a disgrace - yes girls like sci-fi too and I’m sure many boy collectors would love to see chapel and rand to complete the action figure and retro crew sets - the anniversary is the perfect time to release them!

DSTChuck: I agree with everything you say. We solicited orders for both retro and action figures of them in the past and the orders were so far below water there was no hope. Hopefully as plans from CBS and everyone start to be known for the anniversary, something will be possible.

Shawn J.

Will we ever see an Enterprise-C?

DSTChuck: It is certainly possible at some point.

Larry B.

Hello!  I guess I'll climb on the bandwagon and cast a "vote" for a USS Reliant.  Also, Enterprise-C would be really sweet!  Any plans in the future (near or otherwise) for these ships?  Thanks, Larry.

DSTChuck: Votes noted.

Brian S.

I'm sure you've gotten tons of request for phasers. I was hoping for a classic Klingon Disruptor to properly finish out that line for role-play Klingon weapons. Also any chance of a both classic and TNG Romulan Disruptor? Thanks

DSTChuck: None of those are planned at this time, but we have not locked anything down past the TNG Phaser.

James C.

You have no idea how happy I am to see that you are issuing the Star Trek The Next Generation "cobra head" style Phaser. From the pictures I have seen it looks awesome. You have seemingly done an excellent job with great attention to detail. Unless I am mistaken the Next Generation Phasers were the first to be worn in a "holster". The original series Phasers were affixed upon their persons by either Velcro, or magic (I'm not sure which). I was wondering if you have perhaps considered making the black holsters as a companion piece. I know you have said that you aren't thinking too far ahead at this point, but still I would like to weigh in my suggestion of maybe at some point issuing the Next Generation - 1st and 2nd series "dustbuster" style Phaser. I always quite liked the design but everyone seems to completely forgotten about them. Keep up the good work guys. Regards, James

DSTChuck: I can honestly say the idea of a holster has not come up in planning.

B Llyes.

Hi DST! I'm happy that you're making the Star Trek Select figures. I would like the Kruge (Klingon figures as well) and a Federation Starfleet figure from Star Trek 3/4/5/6 movies. Keep up the good work.

DSTChuck: I think anything like that would have to be pretty far down the road, but I’m glad you like what we have been doing so far.

Jim W.

First, I just want to say that the TOS Romulan Bird-of-Prey you guys and gals are working on looks amazing, and that I can't wait to see it next to the TOS Enterprise. Anyways, I know you can't get into specifics, or confirm anything, but I was wondering if Chakotey is someone you might consider for the Star Trek Select line some day? As someone who is proud of their Native American heritage, and who is also a big Trekkie/Trekker, I would love to one-day proudly display a figure of such a great representation of NA's in fiction, and the Playmates figure just doesn't do that so-well.

DSTChuck: Jim, he has not been ruled out or planned at this time. I do know we ran around the idea of him as a Minimate when we did the Legacy line.

Sascha A.

Dear Art Asylum Team. I'm a huge fan of your prop-replicas and a collector of your Star Trek phasers, communicators and tricorders. I can't wait to get your Star TreK III phaser here in Germany.

Are you planning to produce a star TreK III communicator too? And what about the later Star Trek IV assault phaser with your outstanding quality? Best regards, Sascha Acker (Hamburg, Germany)

DSTChuck: Honestly, we have not planned the next item after the TNG phaser, so we’ll have to see. Some of it will depend on how these next role-play do.
